Emirates, with Parsys Telemedicine, are very happy to announce the introduction of state-of-the-art telemedicine technology designed for Inflight medical care. This development shall see the introduction of modern medical equipment such as the state-of-the-art telemedicine station, putting passenger safety first and enabling a rapid medical response in-flight. With an investment of over USD 2.4 million in co-developing it, the next-generation inflight medical system will be fitted on 300 aircraft in the coming years, catering to the requirements of Emirates Airline.
The new system features high-definition video conferencing, remote assessments, secure data transmission, and a 12-lead Telecardia ECG. This advanced technology empowers Emirates’ cabin crew to deliver timely medical assistance and communicate directly with ground-based medical professionals. This program has been achieved following one year of work aimed at improving efficiency, reliability, and connectivity to address medical emergencies whenever they arise.
The Parsys Telemedicine Kit and the Parsys Cloud platform are the heart of this system. The portable telemedicine kit comes equipped with key medical instruments, which include pulse oximeters, thermometers, blood pressure monitors, glucometers, and ECGs. These instruments work together to collect necessary health information that the cabin crew will pass on to Emirates' Ground Medical Support team in Dubai for 24/7 operation. Data is transmitted via Bluetooth to the Medcapture device to increase the overall efficiency of the process while eliminating manual note-taking and ensuring rapid and accurate patient care.
The Medcapture tablet, which contains easy-to-use software, enables real-time communication between cabin crew and ground-based doctors. Medical specialists will have the chance to externally assess the condition of a passenger, offer immediate instructions, and give the capacity to provide visual assessments of injuries when necessary. Each part of the system is linked carefully and connected to the Parsys Cloud platform, so when data transmission occurs, all information travels on encrypted algorithms from both ends to protect the patient.
The system has already proven its life-saving capabilities. Recently on a flight to Lyon, France, an elderly passenger suffered a cardiovascular emergency causing an extreme drop in oxygen levels. Emirates cabin crew members efficiently administered oxygen to the passenger and utilized the Parsys Medcapture in-flight medical device to send the passenger's vital signs directly to the Ground Medical Support team, allowing for timely intervention.
By using advanced training and technology, Emirates aims toward optimal medical preparedness. Intensive training of youngsters will contain eight weeks on safety, security, service, and medical response. Among others, the life-saving skills will comprise CPR, AEDs, and childbirth assistance. This type of training is supported by advanced simulations that internally refresh the training of cabin crew once a year to keep them fit to tackle medical emergencies such as allergic reactions and shortness of breath. The staff is detailed upon Mental Health support to help after critical incidents by their Employee Assistance Program.
Through its collaboration with Parsys, Emirates is going to establish new standards in inflight medical care, providing safety to the passengers and functioning towards immeasurable emergency response capabilities using advanced technology.
